Fantasy Life

I came into this game thinking it was any fantasy rpg knock off but I was mistaken!!!! I haven’t been this addicted to a game since Pokemon and World of Warcraft came out. The only thing I would change is having two 3DS so I can play all of my favorite games at the same time, since wait times are so silly when you DPs stuff. Uuuuuuugh!!!!

You are (insert a random class here) who has to go through many quests to ensure people stay awake, puppies look ferocious and your child king remains happy. You go around this world killing mining fishing and cooking to make your friends and towns folk happy.

When your first start a character you can customize to your hearts content. There are many different things to choose from. From hair with kitty ears to a bald face with big eyes. You can look any way you want and no matter what people will adore you and ask for help. I wanted to make the cutest character possible, and every time I load my game I can’t help but to awe in its cuteness.

Now its time for the important half serious business shiz that makes this a review (I’m kidding about being serious). You get the fantastic option of playing this game how you chose. You can have your name chanted around the town or simply cook for fun. I started off as a wizard (I like a good pew pew in my games). I enjoyed how I could pick what spell to use and you get to level them up. When I got bored (haha that’s a joke) with wizard I swapped over to a few of the other classes to try them out.

Each class has its out outfit weapon and spell layout. You get to kick ass and take names at the same time. When you have a companion it seems to make combat a little easier but sometimes they get a mind of their own and go off and forget to help you. Its a case of the shinies.

Like i said above, you have the options of purchasing pets in this game that will follow you around and make sure you have a fighting buddy. There was one thing I think you should know before I get side tracked…when you are doing the main story line quests any companion that you purchase cannot go with you. I got super excited to have a little white puppy with me on my adventures but was quickly upset that he couldn’t come with me when (spoilers and more spoilers) happened.

I really enjoyed this game and I feel there’s replay value if you’re up for a clean slate. Once you pick a class you have to go through and intro but after that (I’m very happy about this) you can skip the intro and go right into the quests that start you off on your new life. You also get to chose the life you would like to play. You’re never on a time schedule or pressured into doing your quests. Spend the whole day fishing or catching bugs. Its your life. Your fantasy life.

Though I loved this game, the joystick was uncomfortable and I could only play for a certain amount of time before I had to take a break, since I have nerve damage in my hands. I enjoy games that I can change how I move, instead of relying on one stop. I don’t like having to put down a game I am enjoying =(

I give this game a 7/10. I can see many hours playing this game and they are enjoyable but I feel like if you don’t know where to look you can get stuck with nothing to do for a period of time, so you sit there with your woof woof and stare into the open areas.

I also wanted to apologize to you guys for posting a little late. Its been busy here and I have barely found the time to sit down and write this hahah.

Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army 2

I know what you guys are probably thinking. UnicornMuffin, why are you doing this game? It’s not scary. Not at all. You’re right. It’s not. But it is a spooky scary theme. What’s scarier than Zombies? Nazi Zombies. But this is one of my favorite sequel type games to a fun FPS Stand alone game.

You are a member of an elite group of group of fancy snipers who were sent out during WW2. Close to the end of the war, Hitler decided to unleash his final weapon. Zombies. Only you, with the guns and others, can defeat this army. Or so the story says. I played with my friends because I really don’t trust NPC’s in games like this. Sometimes they go out of their way to ruin your chance at winning. It’s like “Hey I”m going to stand over here in this bush and do something”. Ugh. I mean sometimes playing with people have the same response but at least you can unfriend these people.

When you wake up, your find yourself in Hell. Well I’m assuming it’s hell. It’s full of Zombies and fire. You think you’re safe, but no. You are never safe. You are sent through mazes and buildings and tanks and everything else you can think Zombies can throw at you. Except limbs. They don’t throw those at you.  I wish, you know how cool that would be? “Braiiiin….oh who am I kidding? ARMS AWAY!” Unlike a lot of zombie games, these little shits sneak up on you when you least expect it. Pile of Bones? ZOMBIES! Huge tree? ZOMBIES! Eyes tired? ZOMBIES. Yeah…be prepared for Zombies, everywhere you can think of.

Did I mention heads exploding? I don’t think I did. Well they do. Organs burst out from the abdomen, heads bursting with brains! What’s not to love? Unless you don’t like gore…and if you don’t like gore, why do you want to play a ZOMBIE SHOOTER? I guess the world may never know or something.  I’m a big fan of when you shoot someone you want to see the blood guts and gore. Nothing like a rolling head in the morning, am I right? I am right.

Anyways, The controls are typical of a PC FPS. WSAD and click to fire. I found that you have to watch where you step. I would go to tun away from Zombies only to get caught on something silly and almost die while my mates went on with out me. My undying gratitude to these guys. The scope system is super nice but sometimes it was a little cheating. I didn’t notice the scope waving around like you , well…you were a zombie. I enjoy the more realistic scopes but sometimes during times like this easier scopes make it nice. I mean you are an Elite Sniper.

With everything becoming more about the Zombie Apocalypse, can you really afford not to start training now as a elite Sniper? I sure hope you can’t! There are so many vital bits of information regarding the zombies, Hitler and the world war itself. A lot of the game is realistic. I say that because the anatomy of your enemies  is very accurate to that of an actual living human being.

I liked this game, graphics and all. I enjoyed relying on my  (ex)friends for help and killing in the zombies. I give this game 7/10 brains. It’s a nice gam ebut some of the tiny bugs like getting caught and stuff caused me to die a few times. That wasn’t too much fun, but I wish I became a Zombie and so I could take over the world with my brainless allies and then…Well..that’s for an other time.

Five Nights at Freddy’s

In the spirit of October, This month’s reviews will all be spooky scary games! This game is definitely one of those games! Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE being scared but this is insane o.o

Let’s start off by the story. You are a security guard working the late night shift at a Chucky Cheese Knock off. The pay is good and all you have to do it watch the cameras, and live until 6 am. Wait a minute…Live? Um…I’m sorry but I didn’t think I would have to worry about my life at a kids party place…. Every day you receive a recorded message from the person before you. He tells you that the animatronic animals that entertain children during the day, are out to kill you at night. This sounds like a Horror Movie…Like NIGHT OF THE LIVING ROBOTS!!!!! Well, you have one one way of protecting yourself. Shut the doors. Oh, so hard I know. But you have a limited source of energy to work with and everything you do besides moving your head uses the precious energy.

The first night is super slow, and you don’t have a lot to worry about except Mr. Psycho Bunny out to stuff you in a suit. Eep! You watch the camera’s and see where they are moving. But remember, everything you do uses energy. Ideally, I would want to keep all of the doors shut but you run out of Energy so quickly…and when you do run out…Oh boy. To your right, you see eyes light up and a happy song play as the eyes blink, once the eyes are done being scary you can either pray the clock turns to 6am or accept the fact you’re about to be stuffed into a roboy skin.

As you progress through the levels, the robots get quicker and more intelligent. It’s almost like they know your every move. I must admit, my favorite part of the Pirate Cove’s very own Foxy. The fact that she is so creepy, she is also the only robot that you know for sure what direction they’re going and you have a short time to respond. And let’s sure hope you respond fast…Now, let’s say you fail to react fast. This is when the scary part happens. If you fail to catch them they will get you. They will scream and they will act like inflatable flailing arm tube man.

Once you last past the 5th night, a special 6th night appears. DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNN!!!! This version of the typical nights, you will get no calls and everything goes down right away. The AI are quicker and more deadly…Never thought I could be so scared of a video game. I don’t think I every jumped higher in my life!!! If you manage to get past the mysterious and deadly 7th night you unlock a special night where you can set the intelligence level. The higher you make it, the faster the AI come to get you and the less time you have to react.

Everything is a click base style, the flip the light on and to shut the door you hit the button.  You flip through cameras by clicking on them and monitor your fuzzy metal friends. The graphics are something that made this game stand out to me. It’s creepy as hell. When you see the guys staring at the camera with their mouth ajar with those cartoonish teeth, I about crap myself. It’s almost like they peer into your soul….and will slowly drive you insane and can actually through you off your game and possibly get you killed.

If you happen to enjoy getting scared, I recommend giving this game a try. It starts off super slow but it really picks up as the nights go on. It’s literally harder and harder to survive later in the game. I suggest playing this game in the dark with headphones. There are a lot of noises you can miss that can make or kill you.  Now, don’t be afriad of the dark and as long as you stay when the place is open you’ll be ok.

I give this game a wicked 9/10.

Beast of Prey

I apologize for this review being late! A lot has been going on, like losing my jobs….Yeah that’s not TOO fun but it’s ok! Something will happen =D It always does! So here goes nothing!

If you have a spot in your heart for MineCraft that you should clear a spot for Beasts  of Prey.  This Survival Dinosaur game found it’s way into my list of games to play. This may still be in a Beta form, but I must say…it was worth it for the most part.

Your goal is to survive…that’s it. Kill dinosaurs, other players, build weapons and survive. The game is very much like minecraft, except it’s not blocky. You start off as a bald man, and as far as I can figuure out, you can’t change that. So you’re forever a bald man, not that I’m complaining. You gather resources to build areas to make a living while fending off herds of dinosaurs and other scavenger people…The community itself isn’t a very nice one. I say this  because we tried setting up a private game and we had people enter the game and literally STEAL everything we had. Items that we have worked for 10+ hours for. Not that I’m complaining but that was a HUGE kick bellow the belt to us.  I hope they add a lock or something later on.

Gathering items is super easy in the game.  If you’re lucky to find a forest that you can grow in then you have it made for wood! Each tree respawns it’s bounty in about 4 minutes. I  did find it hard to get Ores and rocks. Those were a bit more tricky.  For the longest time, nothing would spawn and we eventually ran out of ore/stone to use. That wasn’t very fun! Luckily after a quick refresh we were okay and back on track!

Now the controls and game play are very similar to Minecraft, (I know I”m making a lot of comparisons! ) With that it’s WSAD and you use your mouse to guide the camera. Every once in a while you will catch yourself getting trapped in a ore node or even better, a dinosaur spazzing out after you hit it. Honestly, it’s that sort of thing that makes me really love this game! Minus the stealing community, I have nothing to complain about with this game. Everything  is pretty much straight forward and easy to do.

All n all, this game to me is worth the beta access through purchase. If you can find people to play with that wont steal your items and or your places then the MMO is very fun and exciting. It’s nothing like food teamwork that makes this game even more fun.  If you can’t find those people then you can always put a Baby triceratops in your area, You make that mistake ones. I thought it would be cute to have a baby one in my camp…he game me a headache. Non stop “RAWR RAWR RAWR” o.o ugh.

I give this game a 6/10. The fact that a “private” server isn’t private is a real killer for me. I love everything else about this game. This is defiantly one game that I will revisit once it’s released, but for now it’s going to be a 6/10.

Destiny

I want to apologize for not posting a review last week. A lot has been going on but fingers crossed it’s all better now! I’ve had time to play Destiny. Oh man, I’ve been waiting FOREVER to write this review. I may be late but here I go! A heads up, this review may contain spoilers.

This review has been in the making for a while now, since I heard about the game I knew this would be a keeper. I’m going to say right now, this is in the top 5 games. I feel like the game is worth the money and will be worth it even more with the seasonal pass.

The storyline is different but has an eerie Halo feel. It’s almost like the same Company…Oh they did!! Well, It starts off with you behind dead and be revived by your Ghost, voiced by Peter Dinklage. I won’t lie, During the Beta I was super excited to hear his voice. I feel it was perfect for a Ghost! As you go on you discover more things about what had happened during the period you were dead.  The storyline is very detailed and doesn’t stray away at any point. It sticks with the story and character.  My one major complaint right now is that once you finished the story, you’re kind of stuck since there is nothing released yet. Now the game feels like a major grind.

Once you finish the story, like I said above. The game turns into a grind, especially if you don’t get to 20. You can chose to do patrols, which basically means  running around an area you have been before killing, collecting and transmitting data over and over again. I found them to be fun, then I didn’t have to grind them out for a level. Public events also grant a lot of experience as well. it’s just a matter of being there when they  happen. You can chose to do PvP for exp at any point in the story line. I’m all for PvP but my one down side is that they don’t scale down. If you’re a level 13 you may be paired with a Level 25. You can expect to get a little owned in that match.

You can unlock new spaceships and sparrows various ways.  Pre order gave you a new Sparrow, a red one. I like it except for I can’t take a hit to save my life on it. One wrong turn and it’s bye bye Birdie! To me, right now spaceship mods mean nothing in the sense of Purpose. They all just feel like a visual improvement. I’m hoping they add something where modifications actually mean something other then Oh hey my ship is prettier than yours.

Weapons have the same feel as they do in Halo and other Bungie Games. I haven’t noticed that you have to arch anything except grenades, and that’s OK to me.  It’s fun to look up at the sky, throw your grenades and watch them destroy your enemy. I do wish the cool down wasn’t as long though. But that’s OK. Gives me more time to kick butt and take names later.

For a console game, I found it to be visually pleasing. Some time if you turn your camera wrong, it goes out of focus on certain parts. For example when you’re in the Tower and you’re trying to see your character’s face, it becomes super blurry and all you see if two bright blue orbs glowing in the sea of fuzzy….Won’t lie, that kind of creeped me out the first time it happened.

Even with all of the problems I have personally with the game. This is one of the best comebacks I’ve seen from Bungie. It brought back old memories from Halo and well and made new ones.  My, honest, only problem is that cut scenes aren’t skipable. That’s annoying when You’ve already played through the story and want to go back through to help a friend out or even for the experience. Once you’re done with the quest, there you are stuck watching a cut scene that you’ve seen before. It’s annoying, but eh.

I give this game happily a 10/10. Just because I found parts of this game annoying or even unattractive doesn’t mean that you guys will. This has to be one of my favorite games for 2014. It has a high replay value as you can experience it as different classes. The community for the most part seems to be kind and polite. They help out when they can and they really work well together as a team.

Lionheart Tactics

I have always enjoyed real time tactic games and this is one of the better ones I have played this year. It’s a free to play game and I feel like I would pay for this game if it came to it, that’s how much I enjoyed it.

The storyline to me is a bit cliché. You are a knight that has to fight an evil presence with a group of people. The more people you gather the more you can do when you fight. You have the option to pick melee classes and some ranged ones. If you plan right you can make the best team. I personally use two melee and two rang with a healer.

In enjoy the fighting style and how the turns work. It reminds me a lot of Super Mario RPG and Final Fantasy Tactics. You start out in a map that you can literally move which ever way you want to get a better view of your enemies and the map to better plan your attack. Once you finish your move it is the enemy’s turn. Whenever someone gets a hit off, there is a retaliation. Sometimes that’s a make or break moment.

When you reach a certain limit you have to combine other heroes to make the ones you want to use stronger. I have noticed this becoming a huge part of mobile games. Combining different heroes to make a certain things and people stronger. So is this a new trend or something? What ever happened to good ol’ leveling?

The graphics are crystal clear. I feel like they’re fit for a PC they’re so clear. I found it hard to put my Shield down. This game was both graphical intriguing as well as easy to play. Its all tap and slide.

This game is enjoyable both gameplay and graphic wise. I had a lot of fun playing it and this will be in my top 10 in January! Don’t miss out on the great chance to play this game OK? If you love tactical games then you should try it out!

I give this game a 8/10. I wasn’t a big fan of the story it was too cliché for me. I did enjoy how you play the game and the different types of game play.

UnicornMuffin does the Ice Bucket Challenge

Tropico 5

I really enjoy the Civilization games.  So when I finally got a hold of a copy of this game, it’s safe to say that I was not disappointed. This is definently going in my top games for the year. I really enjoyed this game and there aren’t that many things I didn’t like.

You start off on this beautiful island, either by yourself or with friends/random people. You are given a set amount of money and a quest to break away from the crown and be free!!!! Or fail miserably and just stare at the screen and sigh…wondering what could you have done better…There’s  always that ONE thing that you can think of and then when you restart the game it doesn’t matter if you needed more Bananas. Now you need Llama’s to make the people happy!

The story line is pretty much what I had explained above. Gain your freedom and live and thrive on an island. But watch out, you upset the wrong people and it wont be fun for you. No..not really fun. Every once in awhile, a bad choice will result in some of your citizens going insane and rioting. It’s kind of like “WE DON’T LIKE THE LLAMA’S BRING BACK THE BANANAS!!!!!!” As you evolve into history, the more you learn who good or bad you’re doing.

You have the wonderful option to chose between a dictator ship or a democracy. Me, being the every one is equal in the say of the government and how I run it, chose Democracy. Let me tell you something, No matter what I did those people hated me. I filled the town with bars, operas and schools and they slammed me down. During the elections you have a wonderful option to Kill, Banish or bribe the people running against you. But when one person leave another takes his place.  I found it difficult making those people happy.

The graphics are very similar to Civ 5,which made the Catherine* in me happy as can be! I enjoyed the simple graphics for the large area.  The little details of the tiny trees get me every time. There is just so much details in the little buildings. It’s a little taste of what it’s like to be a overseer of a world.  Don’ t like the road? It’s gone! Don’t get me started on the roads..they’re just like the Civ roads. No such thing as straight roads.

Over all, I adore this game. It’s a neat twist of Civ. Tropical Island, fancy dictator (or president) that you can customize. I found myself  sitting down and playing this game for hours and playing story lines, experimenting with different ideas and rules.

I happily give this game a 9/10. I never found myself getting upset with this game. No matter how hard I failed. I love the game with the humor, graphics and just the over all game play.

Throne Rush

Throne Rush is a mobile/Facebook game where you build walls, turrets  and armies to protect your castle as well as defeat other players  in hopes off gaining their riches and food. The game really centers around what you can build to make sure you cannot be defeated when you are attacked by other people. There isn’t much more to the game than that.

There really isn’t a story line to this game. There is a story mode which you just use the army you build and destroy NPC castles and get whatever they had stored. Certain NPC castles will give you extra items such as potions, and gems that you can use for magical spells, as long as you have a certain building. The goal of the game, like I’ve said before, is to build a stronghold to protect your castle. You also need to build a strong army so that you can defeat others who think they are not penetrable.

To get the strong armies, you have to upgrade your castle. It takes a while to get a high level castle. Building time is real time so when it tells you it takes a week…it takes a week. To get the different types of people in your army you have to level up your Barracks. There are many types of classes available for you as you level up. Dragons, Hawks, Gryphons, Orcs, Elves. Anything can be at your fingertips as long as you have the time and patience to level your buildings.

As I said earlier you have the option to purchase spells with Potions and other random things you get when you play against other people. You can have aa max of 5 spells that you will have to repurchase after every use. The same goes with your armies. Even if your game crashes during a fight, you still lose what you used during that game, so play wisely. It takes me an average of 30 minutes to get my army back to full when I play against people, and even in the campaign mode.

The game for the most part is free to play but you have the option to purchase Gems when you will need if you don’t want to wait for a building or to purchase Heroes.  Heroes are strong(ish) NPC’s that you can have to assist your armies during a battle.  When you first begin the game, you have an option to purchase gems at half the price plus get a few extra. I personally went for the 19.99 set which included 130 extra gems. It’s a nice way tto get started if you think you can apply the extra time so it wont feel like you wasted money on the game.

Throne rush to me is a novelty game. After a certain amount of time it becomes a waiting game and eventually turns into down time where you can’t really do anything because you are waiting for your stuff to build. All in all it’s a fun game if you can build quick and have friends to help you.I give this game a 5/10. I don’t really enjoy the down time., and it seems like everything you rely on as down time at certain points in the game and they really make or break you.

Mouse Town

Have you ever wanted to be a mighty mouse with the strength to slay evil reptiles that are trying to eat you? Now you have that chance! Mouse town is a little RPG exploring strategy game available on Android and iOS phones, tablets and other devices. Your goal is to explore the area, gather  heroes and resources  while trying to fend off all sorts of reptiles who are out to get you and your mousey town.

When you first load the game, you will have to go through a simple tutorial. It explains  how to build places, fight and gather what you need. Each time you build something you get the chance to gain more mice which are used to build stores, explore and repair. The more mice you have the more you can do. But each time you use a mouse, it takes awhile for them to come back. I find that if you build a about 12 houses you will be ok in the earlier levels. You can always spend gems, which you are given a few when you start but you can always purchase them, to get better everything, like with most mobile games.

The combat mechanics are unique to the game in the sense you legitimately control who attacks and heals what. It’s a simple swipe motion to guide your little mouse to it’s for to slay him. You can also use power-ups as they are gained or you can use a gem to boost them up. As you fight you level your heroes and better gear becomes available.  I found that most of the gear you have to use gems for…which I find to be a bit silly. But when a game is free you have to think of a way to make it worth your while I guess.  But if you do end up playing for a bit every once in awhile you’re give 1-3 gems whether it’s from leveling or doing specific quests. At the end of every fight, your hero must sleep to renew it’s energy.  It can be a bit annoying especially when you’re trying to explore.

The exploration is very time consuming, and a bit annoying. You can only explore in a certain areas and it makes your town a strange shape and a bit hard to worth with in the start until you’re about level 10, when it’s a nice open area.  When you open a new area, you have to fight a lizard of some sort to open the area to get it’s resources or heroes. When you start out the exploration goes by quickly, but after that it drags on. The fights you had to do to unlock the area now require more than one go, but they’re roughly the same fight. Exploration is beneficial to you as you can unlock heroes for free. Other heroes can be purchased through their store using gems.

The graphics are simple. The mouse seem to be clip art type mice with paper doll like movements. Everything is made out of items you’d throw away or have somewhere in your house. A table made from a thimble and a spool of thread, a tea house  made from a tea pot. All little items a mouse could find useful.

Beside the fact that almost everything neat is only purchased with cash or gems, it’s a game that would be a great way to kill boredom for a few hours. Assuming you like waiting a period off time before you can progress in the game then it’s perfect! I feel like if the game didn’t have as much down time it could really be fun!!! I give this game a 5/10.  Though I do enjoy the game, the fact that I have to wait to do anything makes it slightly annoying. I feel that the  way the levels of exploration were poorly placed and made the area a little difficult to place objects you need to even go on in the game.
