Back 4 Blood Closed Beta

Many many years ago, a little game called Left 4 Dead came out. It was a game set in a outbreak zone where your goal is to survive the best you can with your friends. For the time, this game was advanced. With rumors of the 3rd game coming out brought the need for a game like this to come out. This game has brought back so many memories it’s amazing.

The game play is fantastic and really relies on you guys to pay attention to where the other people are as well as what is going on in the environment. There are the same type of events that force a horde, but there are also groups of birds, cars and other items that can summon them as well. The hordes can be very intense and if you are not paying attention to what is summoned it can be the end of the game. But you do have three tries to get to the next safe house so it’s not too bad.

They have added a card deck system into the game that will draw from them at the start of every game/chapter. Four cards are drawn and you select what ones you want and the game starts you in a room where you can pick up some free gear or you can open a store and purchase items with copper that you find out in the world as you play. Each player character you can pick have different group buffs that can help you out when you have a full party.

The store offers a variety of goods from health kits and pipe bombs. You can also purchase weapons and upgrades for them so you can increase damage, accuracy ect. Melee is also an option in the game. Each chapter offers weapon upgrades as the ridders get harder and stronger. I say check the stores and little crannies for weapons, upgrades and more. This game is all about strategy or you will struggle.

The game offers a unique array of special ridders from a one that will crush you to a half body pouncing from the walls and pin you down. Each one has a weak spot and it’s up to you to figure out how to make what’s best of what you have to get them down, get their weak spots and survive. It honestly took me a few downs to figure out a good strategy and keep at it.

Over all, my experience of this game is great. I honestly loved everything about it and it was just a trip down

nostalgia lane. Though there are some kinks, they’re not game breaking. It’s mostly some weird party bugs and such. I urge you guys to give it a try when it comes out to Open beta. The Closed Beta is a 7/10 Stars! Great game, I personally ran into some issues but nothing a quick restart or just starting a game over again.

Resident Evil 3 Remake

This year has most definitely been a year for remakes and rebirths of my childhood. With the hype and my undying love for the remake of Resident Evil 2. I must say this game didn’t fall short scaring the crap out of me and keep my eyes looked to the screen. You never know what’s going to be around that corner.

With Raccoon City in ruins and with some of the best bosses in the Resident Evil series it’s really hard to say anything bad about this game. With the environment being so detailed from flickering lights to ambient sounds, the game really keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Compared to the Resident Evil 2 remake, the combat here is a lot more entertaining. Jill has a new move that’s like a fast side step now so she can dodge some attacks. Jill can also use a few different weapons in the game with upgrades available for you as you progress through the story. You can never go wrong with shot guns though. Just saying.

Nemesis is back…he is strong….and quick….and like holy shit excuse me? For being as BIG as he is he can’t do that…or can he? When he does show up it’s so unexpected. He got me to squeak a few times in fear…this is one of two games that I can never feel completely safe in. The first being Deadspace.

Just like with Resident Evil 2, you are able to play as Carlos. I felt like he was a bit of a hardmode character as it wasn’t as easy to dodge or do other things as him. Sure you can be a bad ass, but if you can’t dodge outta the way…what are you good for ;P I must say, thought I enjoy a challenge…I do find myself playing Jill more than the Merc Carlos.

Keeping true the nature of the rooms and spots in the series, each room has a unique story to tell you. From useful items all the way to secrets there’s always something for you and a good reason for you to explore in the world. Sure, sometimes it can seem very tedious to do some of the tasks, but you are always rewarded for your time. Thankfully there is a map to help you find your way around but be careful….was that dead body here before?

Going into this game with just my memories to help, this game seemed like a torture room before now. Honestly at first I felt like it was going to be the same. I would push in areas where it was difficult to try to get past and with one wrong move, you are dead. Though this can be frustrating, I defiantly recommend taking your time with the puzzles and bosses to the best of your skills. Based on my level of knowledge from the original game, slow and steady survive the Zombie Hoards.

This game is a beautiful challenge. It brings back the amazing memories I have of the original game with adding modern age mechanics into it. It still feels like Resident Evil 3. This is a perfect game if you like to relive the glorious past but also if you fancy a scare.

RE 3 gets a 8/10. This is one of the games that I grew up with so I could be slightly bias. I like to give honest reviews and I honestly feel like this is a game you should pick up and play. The replay value is there. Maybe you missed this room on accident? Time to go back! Jill is EZ mode? Then play as Carlos. Just play until your little zombie loving heart forgets 2020.

Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army 2

I know what you guys are probably thinking. UnicornMuffin, why are you doing this game? It’s not scary. Not at all. You’re right. It’s not. But it is a spooky scary theme. What’s scarier than Zombies? Nazi Zombies. But this is one of my favorite sequel type games to a fun FPS Stand alone game.

You are a member of an elite group of group of fancy snipers who were sent out during WW2. Close to the end of the war, Hitler decided to unleash his final weapon. Zombies. Only you, with the guns and others, can defeat this army. Or so the story says. I played with my friends because I really don’t trust NPC’s in games like this. Sometimes they go out of their way to ruin your chance at winning. It’s like “Hey I”m going to stand over here in this bush and do something”. Ugh. I mean sometimes playing with people have the same response but at least you can unfriend these people.

When you wake up, your find yourself in Hell. Well I’m assuming it’s hell. It’s full of Zombies and fire. You think you’re safe, but no. You are never safe. You are sent through mazes and buildings and tanks and everything else you can think Zombies can throw at you. Except limbs. They don’t throw those at you.  I wish, you know how cool that would be? “Braiiiin….oh who am I kidding? ARMS AWAY!” Unlike a lot of zombie games, these little shits sneak up on you when you least expect it. Pile of Bones? ZOMBIES! Huge tree? ZOMBIES! Eyes tired? ZOMBIES. Yeah…be prepared for Zombies, everywhere you can think of.

Did I mention heads exploding? I don’t think I did. Well they do. Organs burst out from the abdomen, heads bursting with brains! What’s not to love? Unless you don’t like gore…and if you don’t like gore, why do you want to play a ZOMBIE SHOOTER? I guess the world may never know or something.  I’m a big fan of when you shoot someone you want to see the blood guts and gore. Nothing like a rolling head in the morning, am I right? I am right.

Anyways, The controls are typical of a PC FPS. WSAD and click to fire. I found that you have to watch where you step. I would go to tun away from Zombies only to get caught on something silly and almost die while my mates went on with out me. My undying gratitude to these guys. The scope system is super nice but sometimes it was a little cheating. I didn’t notice the scope waving around like you , well…you were a zombie. I enjoy the more realistic scopes but sometimes during times like this easier scopes make it nice. I mean you are an Elite Sniper.

With everything becoming more about the Zombie Apocalypse, can you really afford not to start training now as a elite Sniper? I sure hope you can’t! There are so many vital bits of information regarding the zombies, Hitler and the world war itself. A lot of the game is realistic. I say that because the anatomy of your enemies  is very accurate to that of an actual living human being.

I liked this game, graphics and all. I enjoyed relying on my  (ex)friends for help and killing in the zombies. I give this game 7/10 brains. It’s a nice gam ebut some of the tiny bugs like getting caught and stuff caused me to die a few times. That wasn’t too much fun, but I wish I became a Zombie and so I could take over the world with my brainless allies and then…Well..that’s for an other time.

Five Nights at Freddy’s

In the spirit of October, This month’s reviews will all be spooky scary games! This game is definitely one of those games! Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE being scared but this is insane o.o

Let’s start off by the story. You are a security guard working the late night shift at a Chucky Cheese Knock off. The pay is good and all you have to do it watch the cameras, and live until 6 am. Wait a minute…Live? Um…I’m sorry but I didn’t think I would have to worry about my life at a kids party place…. Every day you receive a recorded message from the person before you. He tells you that the animatronic animals that entertain children during the day, are out to kill you at night. This sounds like a Horror Movie…Like NIGHT OF THE LIVING ROBOTS!!!!! Well, you have one one way of protecting yourself. Shut the doors. Oh, so hard I know. But you have a limited source of energy to work with and everything you do besides moving your head uses the precious energy.

The first night is super slow, and you don’t have a lot to worry about except Mr. Psycho Bunny out to stuff you in a suit. Eep! You watch the camera’s and see where they are moving. But remember, everything you do uses energy. Ideally, I would want to keep all of the doors shut but you run out of Energy so quickly…and when you do run out…Oh boy. To your right, you see eyes light up and a happy song play as the eyes blink, once the eyes are done being scary you can either pray the clock turns to 6am or accept the fact you’re about to be stuffed into a roboy skin.

As you progress through the levels, the robots get quicker and more intelligent. It’s almost like they know your every move. I must admit, my favorite part of the Pirate Cove’s very own Foxy. The fact that she is so creepy, she is also the only robot that you know for sure what direction they’re going and you have a short time to respond. And let’s sure hope you respond fast…Now, let’s say you fail to react fast. This is when the scary part happens. If you fail to catch them they will get you. They will scream and they will act like inflatable flailing arm tube man.

Once you last past the 5th night, a special 6th night appears. DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNN!!!! This version of the typical nights, you will get no calls and everything goes down right away. The AI are quicker and more deadly…Never thought I could be so scared of a video game. I don’t think I every jumped higher in my life!!! If you manage to get past the mysterious and deadly 7th night you unlock a special night where you can set the intelligence level. The higher you make it, the faster the AI come to get you and the less time you have to react.

Everything is a click base style, the flip the light on and to shut the door you hit the button.  You flip through cameras by clicking on them and monitor your fuzzy metal friends. The graphics are something that made this game stand out to me. It’s creepy as hell. When you see the guys staring at the camera with their mouth ajar with those cartoonish teeth, I about crap myself. It’s almost like they peer into your soul….and will slowly drive you insane and can actually through you off your game and possibly get you killed.

If you happen to enjoy getting scared, I recommend giving this game a try. It starts off super slow but it really picks up as the nights go on. It’s literally harder and harder to survive later in the game. I suggest playing this game in the dark with headphones. There are a lot of noises you can miss that can make or kill you.  Now, don’t be afriad of the dark and as long as you stay when the place is open you’ll be ok.

I give this game a wicked 9/10.

Anna

Before I begin the review, I would like to apologize for posting late for not only my review but for my video. I have been very busy with the holidays coming up and I ran out of time and that’s why I’m sitting here now typing a review. Heh. So let’s begin shall we?

If you are looking for a game that really tests your mind, this is the perfect game. Anna is definitely a different type of game. It begins with you in a fenced in yard with a building that is obviously abandoned.  There is a puzzle to do about everything in this game. So it really makes you think. I got stuck a few times. They’re not very obivious puzzles like most games. You have to actually explore to get things done and you always have to check the what you least expect to be helpful to you.

The graphics are quite beautiful. The detail they put into everything really amazed me. When you interact with something, the effect it has or causes were very realistic. I felt like I was actually in the game playing. Literally everything do you causes something to happen in the game. Even a simple step causes grass to bend, ripped in the water, dust to stir. It’s very awesome!

The controls were very easy. I was use to them early on in the game and nothing was out of the ordinary. I did find that sometimes it was a little hard to move items in the game and target them but once I figured out where I needed to have my cursor, it was a piece of cake!! Hmm…Cake.

There were a few times where the game caught me off guard. You can be minding your own business and trying to solve a puzzle then your screen will flicker and a weird figure appears then it vanishes, like nothing ever happened. Sometimes you may hear a weird noise like something falling but when you turn around, nothing happened at all. Are you going insane? Who knows. But I do know that I jumped out of my chair a good amount of times with the “scary” things they threw at you. I won’t go into much detail because that will ruin the game. But just be prepared to get scared!!

The puzzles, like I said before, can be a little difficult. A good example is, to get into the Sawmill, you need to solve a puzzle on the door. The pieces are hidden somewhere in the yard that requires another puzzle to open. You also have to find items that you can use to move other items so you have access to new areas or create new items. It’s really a hit and miss sometimes. But if you don’t do a puzzles you might not have access to other parts of the game or even get items you’ll need later. It’s  a very detail oriented game. So look under everything you can!! You don’t want to miss out on the spooky scary stuff that awaits you!!!!

You control what happens. That’s right. You can decide what happens by how you act in situations. If you don’t do something, it may change the outcome. If you don’t explore an area or even read a book, that can change what happens. There are 8 different endings that can happen, and you decide what one.

This game, is available on Steam for $9.99 USD. If you are wanting a game that messes with your mind and makes you think, you need to check this out. I really enjoyed the game! And it even gave me some weird dreams afterwords too!!! I give this awesome game 8/10 Lily points!!!

Dementium: The Ward

**** There is a spoiler in this review, If you don’t wish to have the game spoiled for you, please skip the Story section. I marked it for you guys so you can skip it! ****

You wake up, in a dark place with nothing, No music. No anything. Your first instinct is to find out what the hell is going on right? As soon as you leave the room, you notice you have terrible night vision so you pull out your flashlight so you can see further. But wait…what’s that sound?

HOLY CRAP!

This has to be one of the scariest games I have played. They did an amazing job on the design, enemy creature creation as well as the story. And to add more as to how awesome this game was to me: It’s on the DS.

You wake up in a room all by yourself with little to your name. You have a flashlight and a pistol, your goal is to find..someones daughter? Yeah, not the best goal in a game but you go with the flow.

The graphics are, to me, what made the game scary. They were perfect and as 3D as you could get. Each mob was covered in blood or scales or something spooky that you couldn’t see until they were in your light. Did I mention the light flickers sometimes?

The game play I found to be difficult at times. Not only do you aim with your stylus, the game is also realistic. You have no armor all you are wearing, I’m assuming based on the story, is a hospital gown, so you take a lot of damage that does not regenerate over time unless you find pills. Ammo is a but scarce too depending on the difficulty you are playing. Lucky for you you have the option of picking up some melee weapons to use when you run out of bullets.

Mobs and chatacter. The mobs are scary to me. They come out of nowhere. With your limited vision, even with the flash light, they can sneak up on you, out of nowhere. You’ll be walking down a hall and suddenly you’ll hear the moaning of a zombie or the weird chirping of the weird worm things. Bosses are huge, ugly and tough if you don’t know what they can do.

You don’t know a lot about who you are playing until you play the story. For all you know when you start, you could be a psychotic patient that has gone completely insane over time and you’re in hell.

**SPOILER** The story. With every scary game comes a scary story? Sure. Why not. It turns out that you are a brain surgery patient. Your awesome surgeon thinks your mind is in danger so he puts you in a nightmare where you have to fight for your life, and end the dreams. Through out the dream, there are mentions of a man who, like i said, killed his wife and his daughter. The..hell? Anyways as you finish the game it ends with a man standing over a dead woman with a gun, Police shoot and wound the man and that’s it. The end?

In 2009 however, they released a sequel to the game, Dementium II. If you liked the first game, get it.

I give this game a 8/10 spooky Lily points. If you like getting spooked, ambushed and exploring a creepy hospital get it. I enjoyed it very much, even when I jumped in my college’s hallways =D
