Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

So, this review is a week or so late, sorry about that. I’ve been going though some  things and it’s caused me to fall behind on quite a few things. Since I am feeling better, now is the best time as any to get this review out and ready for you guys!

So, let’s get down to it and I’m going to start with the controls. I couldn’t get the hang on using the Joy Cons…I think it’s because of my fat hands, but I just couldn’t get it. Thankfully, I have my old gamecube controllers and it made it easier for me, minus the fact I had to relearn all of my characters since they redid some of the move sets. For the most part, I got the hang of the controls rather quickly, and could transfer the set from character to character.

So the story line, I think from that I grabbed besides the “Hey these guys took your souls and now they’re evil and you have to defeat them to get them into your party so You can actually fight them and all of that stuff” Then you add, Darkness and light work together or they don’t? I have no idea. I just kind of went with the flow.

The fights in the campaign mode can be super difficult. I found myself getting pretty flustered so, I’d take a break to just play against NPC’s and I had like 5 people to pick from. So back to the campaign I suppose.

Now, I know. you can unlock the characters by playing against NPC’s but I kind of missed having a rather big selection at the start. So it might be petty, I’m aware. But the selection, the game varitey and everything, made the hard work worth it. Between working, and trying to get my 2019 plan working, it took a few days (or hours I do believe)

So let’s talk spirits. They’re pretty nifty. There are so many of them, each unique. At first, it’s hard to decide what’s the best, and what’s the worst. But soon you learn what the combos are, what spirit goes with this one ect ect. The possibilities are almost endless, and once you get it down, it’s pretty dope. I loved seeing what worked best for me and what didn’t.

The new trophy system is rather neat. It’s a little puzzle board that you can either unlock with certain items you get on special missions, or you do what it says you need to do to unlock them. Though the pictures really don’t go together, they make a really neat collage. So don’t worry if your puzzle looks funky. So does mine :3

All in all, it was a rough start for me, and that’s fine. I didn’t expect me to be the best around with not playing a smash game since the Wii U. So it’s been a few years. I also felt spoiled by having access to 10+ characters at launch and not having to work for them. I don’t have a lot negative to say about this game that isn’t how I feel.

I know that’s how this kind of website works, this is all how I feel about games, but besides being spoiled with fat hands, this game is great. The amount of time it takes to actually unlock everything, and everyone is fairly reasonable for someone like me that works a full time job.

Super Smash Bros Ulitmate I think deserved a 8/10 trophies. I really enjoyed the game, and i like to feel like a child again. It’s fantastic and I do recommend this to everyone.

Black Clover: Quartet Knights

This is one my my underdog animes. It took me a few episodes to get into this, just my My Hero. So when I heard this game was coming out, I couldn’t help but get excited. It’s been awhile since I’ve played an Anime based game or a Japanese fighting game so I was super stoked when I got a hold of a copy.  I couldn’t wait to pop this bad boy in my PS4 and sit on the couch and play it!

So after I waited a long ass time for the game to install, and beat several dungeons on WoW in the mean time, I was excited to hit the X button (I think? Idk man controllers confuse me) and watched the credits roll and then BAM intro movie started. I was sitting on the edge of my couch right now, holding that controller watching in awe as an Anime I love came to life where I controlled what happened!

This game literally throw you into combat right as you start the game. You get a well made animation did some explaining with the story before it throws you back into a fight with Mars, and from there you fight a lot of familiar faces from the Anime like Vetto, Fana and Licht!

Each character has their own magic style like in the show and manga but to be it differed a lot from them as well. Now, yes I understand there are limitations with a controller and even a keyboard and that the wide range of spells everyone knows from the show/manga can’t be condensed into several buttons and such.. This isn’t what I’m getting at. What I am trying to say, is I noticed when I was fighting Vetto, it didn’t FEEL like the beast magic. I didn’t FEEL like he was the rhino or whatever animal that freaky dude becomes.

The same went for a lot of the other people, Asta has a few new moves that almost seem magical and Yami….for the sake of him not trying to kill me. Yami is the best IMO. He feels like what a Captain should be. I haven’t had the chance to play with many other characters but when I do, I wil revise this review. I also haven’t played online at all because I don’t have the extra funds to pay for online time. IMO waste of money, but we’ll talk about that sometime maybe.

So let’s get into the story. I had an interesting time trying to figure out when this was in the time line. But, this seems to be taking place with the anime in a sense but could also be an alternate timeline? Did they learn from Blizzard?! I hope not…at least when you play BC, it feels like your’e actually part of the story and you have to save Clover Kingdom from all of the bad stuff, but I also feel like they kind of just threw Mars in, and extra characters for the sake of having them. I’m not saying this is a terrible idea, I rather like that you learn a little bit more on the lore of the game. After all, I am the Loremaster and my learning never ceases no matter what I am playing.

I like the storyline, a lot. Like more than I thought I was going to as Blizzard left a weird taste in my mouth after WoD and Alternate time lines and yeah….But I like it. I like the new characters they added and I liked how everyone was involved someway or another and it just made it worth it IMO!

So, let’s talk about the combat. As someone that has not played on console in a long time, it was hard for me to get back in the grove of not having a mouse and keyboard to move fight ect. What made it worse is it was a PlayStation contoler, and I will be honest, besides the mouse and keyboard, I am use to the xbox controller. So I feel like I was at a disadvantage, heh. But once I sat down and got used to everything, combat was a lot easier. It took awhile for me to keep my thumb on the camera stick so at first, I couldn’t ever keep an eye on my enemies and it would cause me to almost lose! Now that’s not good for a Knight!

Boiling it down, you have a basic of 4 attacks using all of the differnet triggers then one special one that is triangle? I think that’s the shape.  Anyways, the biggest struggle for me was the use of the camera angle. Now call me Old Fashion but I dislike the full control of the Camera and to me, it causes problems. Now, thought I dislike this, I still very much enjoy the game. Again, once I got used to the controls, the game is so much fun (hell even when I didn’t get them down I was still having fun)

The last thing I wanted to talk about was the graphics. I mentioned above, I was greeted by an amazing cut scene that looked like it was straight from the anime. On top of that, it had amazing graphics both the pre combat and during combat scenes.  I was a little iffy on this style honestly, there are a few games that use it and I feltit took away from the game and what it was but honestly, I really want to say that it matched it perfectly and I loved it!

Though I had a rough start with the game  i love it! The amount of characters you can chose from and the storyline really make you feel like you’re part of the game!  This totally gets 8/10 sheep!  (I love Charmy js)

Sushi Striker: Way of Shushido DS

So this review is for the DS version of the game. I haven’t had a chance yet to play it on the Switch so I can’t really comment on it. I’m going to assume the story line is the same. But, let’s get this review started with this delicious review!!!

The story behind this game is a very unique one, a story that I could totally get behind! So, long story short, your parents went off to fight a war to make sushi available. While trying to find food, you come across a Sushi Striker of sorts who helps you enjoy the taste of the raw fish delicacy before introducing you to a Sushi Spite that helps make sushi! Suddenly you are ambushed by the Empire ( Dun dun dun) where you fight them off and learn the basics of what it means to be a sushi striker. Eventually you get your own sprite and you go off on your own to win back the right for Sushi for everyone!

It’s a healthy mix of Pokemon, Digimon and Candy Crush….something I never thought I would say in the same sentence. Like really. I honestly don’t like the game Candy Crush, but I fell in love with this game. You have to put several of the same color sushi plates together in order to empty your plate WHICH YOU THEN throw at your foe, dealing more damage the more plates you have. Each sprite has their own strengths that you can use and special skills to help you out, or really mess up your foe. I will admit, I found the healing one to be a little weak end game, but the same color attack made it easy to score a HUGE pile of plates to just chuck at my foe. Poor guy probably doesn’t even know what hit him. I mean a small child throwing plates?  Eh it happens.

It’s a quick pace puzzle type game that really strives on the excitement of the matching and throwing rather then the story. I’ll be honest, it a typical be the hero of the country and save the world from the evil government and let’s eat sushi!

This game, thought similar to games I don’t really like, honestly get’s a 9/10 from me.  I had a hard ass time putting it down when I got it and I still do now. If it wasn’t for WoW: BFA I would probably be sleeping with my 3DS for awhile before I finish the game!! I highly recommend it if you’re looking for fast, puzzles and just some cute animals!!!

Portal Knights

This was a game that I went into enjoying the trailer then when I got to actually sit down and play the game, I grew bored. Granted, I’m aware this game is in early access but if you can’t draw me in now, I mean really? Once this game fully comes out, I will do another review, but here’s my thoughts on it so far.

The idea of this game is you’re some hero who goes through portals to various world and you find portal pieces to build new portals and then you go through those and have to find more pieces and it’s a never ending story.

There are a few classes you can pick from like Archer and  mage. Literally you find  abse so you can craft items and stuff then you head out into the massive world and farm mobs until you get a higher level and you find those portal pieces and then you go to a tougher world etc.

The concept is there, but I think the execution should have been a bit better. The big bad bosses they show off are easily missed and they’re pretty cool. I remember fighting this worm and had to figure out the mechanics of the fight to kill him but that was about it. Other than that fun experience, it was a normal boring grind where mobs could easily one shot you and then you’re back at the start of the map.

Granted, I felt like I was getting stronger, I didn’t actually think i was getting anywhere in the story and that was a little upsetting. I didn’t want to spend time in not progressing when that’s what I wanted to happen.

So far, I haven’t touched the game since I got to about level 16 I’ll be honest with you guys, this game is boring to me. The pure repetitiveness of this game just kills it for me. The portals are unique but a lot of mobs are copy and paste with different colors.

Right now, you can buy into the early access for 11.99 USD. IF you want to give this game a try, go ahead, I will post another review for this game when it fully releases and give my final thoughts on it.

So far, this game is a 5/10. The cool concept is there but I feel like there could be so much more to this game that just needs to be in there like a non locking combat system. An actual story line that isn’t a straight up and slash n hack.  Anything like that and I would happily raise the game’s score!!!!

Watch Dogs 2

After the flop of the first game, I was hesitant to get this one. I mean, I’m sure it’s obvious.

But, I was pleasantly surprised. 100% surprised with this one and I can say, that I honestly like this game and it’s one of my top games.

So let’s get it started, you’re a guy who was wrongfully accused of a crime. You break into a top secret location, delete yourself then get wasted with a group of hackers who take you in and you do things with them :O

That’s the story in a nutshell.

You can hack everything.

Literally. You can hack everything and do about anything you want. YOu can take battery life, money cars., You can trigger electrical field, burn, stun kill, blow up drive. The list literally goes on and on with this game!  Your little phone can do anything in this game, but I can’t figure out how to make phone calls :O

Welcome to Dedsec.

I mean really. Who doesn’t want to be a part of an elite team of hackers who are in it for the good of all mankind? I mean come on. If I was amazing at shit like this, maybe I’d want to join Dedsec. The idea is really cool and the things they do there are really neat. YOu can

Make weapons and RC vehicles

Yes, you read that right. They have a magical 3d printer that you can use to make guns, RC cars and an RC shopper. YOu can also use it to change how the weapons look.

Learn about epic movies.

The biggest thing was watching an epic trailer then stealing the epic movie car and making it your own,. What more can you want?

PvP or Hack

You can hack another player, and I mean have fun with it. There’s nothing wrong with it.. It was a neat little thing they added into the game and I really liked the missions, trying to find the one who’s hacking your and eliminate them or counter hack them or whatever you want to do. The co-op on this game is also really fun and i think we had more fun punching people to death, then we did actually doing missions. It was fun exploring the city and brought back memories.

So all in all, this game was a great addition to the Watch Dogs games, and for the time being, Ubisoft renewed themselves. But I’m still on edge. Cough Division cough cough

I give this game a 6/10 there were some weird glitches I ran into and it’s Ubisoft. I do recommend this game if you’re looking to play Watch Dogs since this is 99% better than the first game 🙂

Gears of War 4

The long awaited installment of the Gears of War series is finally here! Omg! 😀 I’ve been waiting for a redemption. Judgement was a terrible place to end it! UGH!!!!

Alright so, let’s get this started!!!

A new story with new foes and new characters really help you immerse yourself into this game. I like the idea of playing J.D but at the same time, it was so great to see Marcus again. The idea is that the locust have returned but seem to be fascinated with kidnapping people from towns and doing whatever with this (turns out they were messing with their DNA or something and making the Swarm BUM BUM BUMMMMM)

Now, the storyline is short but very intense. You play as JD, who left the Cog and with the help of his friends, try to find out why the Swarm is taking their family and other humans. There you run into Marcus again and then a big mess appears and it’s just more fun to experience the fun at this point!!

Combat is very straightforward, and you rely on cover to make sure you don’t die. The accuracy of the weapons is always great and it’s nice to find a bad ass weapons laying around after you slaughter your foes, and there’s nothing bad with a little blood on your boots.

Now, they do add some horde mode esc type deals in the story line as well. You have to set up certain things to help the story a long. A turret here, a barrier there. You are literally only as strong as your weakest link and it’s a make or break situation when it’s there!!!

The real awesome thing is the Multiplayer modes :O They have added a portable energy station so you can literally pick the best spot possible and that you are READY for the foes who dare threaten your life ecte ect.

Besides Horde Mode, there’s a few new things they added to make the PvP in this game really competitive and really make you work your noggin to be the best (Like no one ever was DUN DUN DUN..To…wait, wrong game)

Now it’s also worth noting, there were some issues I ran into while playing. The major one was there were some situations where events didn’t trigger which left me to redo a chapter or an  area and it lead to kind of a boring experience. But who knows, maybe it’ll get fixed in the future That’d be awesome!!!!

This is a def. 7/10 cogs. Though I really enjoyed the game, the bugs kinda killed the game for a me a little. Now, don’t get me wrong. I”m going to keep playing it and until i finish all the levels, but the bugs turned me away a little. But it’s def.a noteworthy game 😀

Skyrim Special Edition

This is going to be a short and sweet review.

Literally, It’s Skyrim but prettier. Now, I got it for free since I had it on PC, and my thoughts are the same.

It’s Skyrim, with the DLC and prettier. I really don’t feel the need to say more than that. I mean the story line is the same. The game play is the same. The glitches are the same. It’s Skyrim.

I’m aware there are a lot of people who are very pissed off about this, but I have to ask. What did you expect? They never promised it would be a new game. They never said they were ADDING anything. Just it was prettier. SO everyone giving this game a bad review can suck it.

I still and always will give this game 8/10. Some of the bugs make it unplayable/completable but that’s fine! It’s a great remastering of a great series and I just can’t get enough of it!!

7 days to die

7 Days to die, or as I’m going to call it “7 Days to die then respawn run back to your group then die again”. this Minecraft Apocalypse wanna be has got to be the most headache inducing game of all time.

I am all for the surviving death, disease and all of that. I find those games to be the most fun so My friends and I thought we would try this game out. I must say, this is something that I wasn’t expecting….and at the end of the time playing it, I made some tea and hit my head against my desk.

Let’s start off with what happens. You are thrown into some random location where you have to collect anything you can find to help build things and items while you dodge a lot of zombies to make sure you can live to make it to either your friends or a safe spot. Now, a lot of zombies is an understatement…a HUGE one mind you. In one area I came across 20+ zombies who all magically knew where I was and where I was going and I swear they were like rabbits…They kept multiplying.

It’s literally a “let’s see how many seconds I can live before I die” type of game, and if you watched my stream you say how many times I died so close together (and if you were watching I apologize for my words…It was super frustrating..)

The graphics themselves are decent, more like early 2000 graphics. YOu can easily identify what’s what and who is who but they’re still not clear or flowing. But this game is still in an early release so I’m hoping something will happen. Now the graphics aren’t detrimental to the game play though. But it reminded me a lot of Beast of Prey.

So now I’m sure you’re like “You said Minecraft but I don’t read minecraft!” I”m getting there! Gosh….

With  the resources you collect you can build things, like walls sleeping bags ect. The way you place things is very minecraft esk and like Beasts of Prey, the envrionment really makes or breaks stuff. I LOVE when my frames go through the ground and then everything looks off center. That’s always great!

The amount of difficulty in this game made it a real headache. We actually had a difficult time getting start and staying together. There were several times we had to pause and regather ourselves before going on.

I’m giving this game a 7/10 Cinderblocks. I liked the game for the most part. I didn’t enjoy having to walk to my friends only to get killed again. The zombie population in this game is too damn high. But since this game is in early access I will be watching it closely and will definitely keep you all posted on the game!

Super Smash Bros. For the Wii U

With so many new games out, it was hard for me to find the time to sit down and write about the ones I have played. So I’m going to start with the one, in my opinion, that is well over due and everyone needs to give it a chance.

I remember sitting in front of my TV with my best friend beside me. I turn on my gamecube and there it is on the screen. “SUPER SMASH BROS.” (It was Melee of course because it was gamecube). Endless amounts of fun came from this game, especially during summer vacation.

Super Smash Bros for the Wii U really reopened my childhood memories of playing with my friends. The endless hours playing this fantastic game it gave me, I couldn’t wait to play it when I heard it was being remade! Now, you may be asking yourself something. “But Unicorn….They came out with Brawl….that was a remake too”  Well…yeah but…Never mind that!

Truth be told, I was super excited about this game because from what I have gathered, there weren’t that many CD problems with this game, and I’m sorry but Handheld versions to me of this game aren’t going to give me the thrill of holding the controller and the “risk” of throwing it into your TV. Oh yeah, those were the days. Please note: I don’t condone the breaking of your TV’s by anger.

So let’s start with the basics right? Many of the original characters plus new ones are here! The one that was weird to me was they made Zelda and Sheik two separate people. Zelda back in the day was one of my favorite players. But I found myself leaning more towards another character nowadays. With many of the old faces, there are many news ones as well. They added Bowser Jr, Greninja Pac Man and many others.

There isn’t much of a stroy line to this game, you beat the tar out of your friends, CPU and other unlockable characters who you swear are always cheating. There are several mini games you can play besides the brawls. My favorite game besides brawling, is the Smash mode. You’re put against (cheating) teams and after so many you get to fight the character you can unlock. How awesomely nostalgic?

The controls, to me, are 100% the same and that helped my childhood blossom in this game. I did noticed that sometimes the controls wouldn’t register and when I got knocked off the edge, I couldn’t get back most of the time. I know what you are probably thinking too “what a terrible player” Well no…even when I would try to jump on the stage it wouldn’t recognize it.  Now, I’m not saying this is a huge flaw in the game, and it may even be my controller, but I’ve seen it happen with a new controller and even the WII U controller.

There are a few more things that made me fall for this game again. The graphics and the stages. I’m not saying that the graphics for all of the other games were terrible, they weren’t. In Fact for the time periods they were beautiful and fantastic! But Drool on the screen? Come on, who doesn’t like seeing that when you smash your foe into oblivion?! If you don’t well…maybe you’re into the new stages? I”m personally a fan of the non moving stages. I felt them to be more challenging then the stages now where there’s actually a routine and if you blink you’re gone.

I do like that we have more places to pummel faces but some of the stages are just so silly I can’t think of a good reason to have them. I saw one of my favorite stages from the Gamecube version. The spaceship. When I saw that one I was immediately needed to play this stage. For those who haven’t played it yet, it’s not the same. You jump from little ship to little ship all while trying NOT to get knocked off during stage changes. And we all know the CPU cheats. (wink wink)  Though, after awhile you get use to the moving stages it’s nice to have the old time ones too, like Ness’s Town of Onett (or Namic when you’re super pumped on adrenalyn), where your biggest problem were those stupid cars that you don’t see because you’re too busy fighting n things.

All in all this game is fantastic! The new characters, stages and games just made this a perfect memory to add to my nostalgia collection. If you haven’t had a chance to play the original and Melee, you really need to!  It may help understand the “frustrations” of small children without the real danger of getting controllers thrown at you. (Long story, but totally worth it)

I give this game a 9/10 Hammers. Like I said, this game has been a wonderful addition to the Smash Bro’s world and really woke up the child in me. I haven’t felt like this towards a game in a long time, save Omega Ruby (review next weeeeeeeek! WHOOT!)  If you like the inner child in you and want to let it out as an adult, this is the perfect game for you! My only real complaints in the stages and some of the controls.

Release your inner child and definitely pick up this game!!

Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper

I have always been a fan of this series. From Dynasty Warriors to now, this game has always been in my top 10. Once more, I am very pleased with it.

(Slight spoilers ahead!)

As the game starts out, you are fighting a giant hydra that has appeared. As you play through, you find the game slowly growing more difficult until you are told retreat…and the Hydra wins. As you retreat, you are confronted by a spirit who drags you into this world and tells you she can help you defeat the hydra, and basically gives you a redo. Depending on how you play, you can defeat the hydra or let History replay itself.

The actual story line as you play is heartwarming as well and exciting. You get to see what each person was doing before the Hydra came forth and set out to destroy the entire world. You help them gather points as well as Allies.  Each character had their own set of allies you can play as well as specific talents each hold. I like making custom teams and building those up. I’ve never been one to enjoy pre-made teams!

The controls, like with their other games, are easy when you get the hang on them. I found myself hitting the wrong buttons or using moves accidently due to them being close together. I’ve accidently swapped characters during a fight and it almost cost my that battle. I wasn’t very happy with that. I feel like if i had used the Wii U’s touch pad I would have done a lot better then using the actual controller. But I’ve stuck with the controller. I also found that using the Wand to be more of a pain than in the butt than convenience as I do have nerve problems and after awhile controllers hurt.

I really enjoyed this game! There were some points of it where it was difficult but the key point it had always remained fun for me.  I give this game a 6/10. Though I really enjoyed the game, Some parts were a little bugged or just kinda silly. There were just some points where I lost interest a little bit but I always managed to get back into it.
